My radical idea is to replace all local and regional transit tickets by just a bunch of time-based tickets: 3 hours, 24 hours, 7 calendar days, 1 calendar month. Inspired by the Deutschlandticket of course. Get rid of everything else. All tickets valid on all local and regional transit until the time (counted from the departure of the first vehicle boarded) runs out.
This integrated station definitely needs a new name. I'm good with Roncy, but a part of me has also been partial to The Wedge (which the Lower Junction Triangle was almost renamed, but the neighbourhood had a fit).
Also, I know there are a hundred reasons why it is more complicated, but the coming development at Danforth & Main, needs to somehow address the similar issue there.
I agree re Danforth and Main, though I think the plan there is an above ground link (really just a sheltered sidewalk) which is ok . . . albeit kind of weak.
Now about the different names of the Dundas West TTC Station on Line 2 and Bloor Station on the Kitchener GO & UPX lines. Roncesvalles Station is my suggestion (closer than the Science Centre Station on Line 5 to the entrance of the Ontario Science Centre or Pioneer Village Station on Line 1 to the The Village at Black Creek).
Yes, I think I made this exact connection with the irritating walk the last time I left Toronto, having resigned from my Toronto-based employer at the time earlier the same day.
Last night, in NYC, it was pouring rain. There was a stalled train from Brooklyn to Manhattan East side (#4 & 5 trains), so I went to the West side (2 & 3 trains), intending to take the L at 14th Street back to the East side. There is a one block underground connection, but it was closed for construction. Uggh!
Rather than walk in the rain, I took three trains.
Another ugly connection is every day at Livonia Avenue and Junius Street, where the L and 3 elevated lines cross. To connect, go down and up (elevator at one station), walking around 3 blocks outside in between.
The more closely integrated station should be called Dundas West, as the subway station was there long before the GO train station was built, and most riders (of both systems) know it as Dundas West. Metrolinx is being unusually stubborn with holding on to the duplicate TTC/GO station name (as they are doing with Main Street/Danforth, and Leslie/Oriole). Transit riders need clarity, not confusion. And having separate station names prolongs the image of separate systems. when the upcoming TTC/GO fare integration is trying to do the opposite, merge the two networks in 416.
I would call the station Junction Station. Many places (like in the UK) have stations called X Junction, and this station is at the south end of the literal Junction neighbourhood, and is a major west-end junction. Or Roncesvalles Junction Station.
It's not in The Junction though. It's in the Junction Triangle. And it stands to reason that there could one day be an Ontario Line station in the Junction proper.
It goes against Mx's non-repeating name protocol (which they break sometimes though) and Dundas is likely to be renamed as a street, two stations and a square!
Fare integration plans will also significantly increase traffic between the two platforms
Indeed they will!

That would make everything SO much easier.

Its an ok name but the issue is that's also a good name for a future station on GO or an Ontario line extension
Unfortunately Dundas is the name of the north-south street at Bloor, it ceases being called Roncesvalles where Dundas merges onto it.
It is "Dundas" for now. Could be changed in the future.

I still have my Presto card though. :-)
Pedestrian connections are so very important.

So what about this makes it "happening"? Is there a timeline?

'Eastern Crossing' for Danforth-Main and 'Western Crossing' for Bloor-Dundas West could work!

And I hate them fire engineers!
Haha, perhaps South Junction would work - I figure a proper station in the junction might be built at some point anyways

*cries*....The "missing link" was supposed to be the CN/CP rail bypass from Georgetown to the 407.
Indeed, maybe someday we will still get it!
Its super ambiguous, the name of two long streets
They do, at Kipling
It goes against Mx's non-repeating name protocol (which they break sometimes though) and Dundas is likely to be renamed as a street, two stations and a square!
They are parallel for most of their lengths, so having a name where they cross is bound to confuse people.
